MaSci Batch '90 Hosts MSHS 52nd Grand Alumni Homecoming

Alumni Foundation scholars are presented to the alumni body to highlight the valuable support of the alumni benefiting the current crop of MaScians.

Manila Science High School graduates from as far back as the 1970's to as recent as the 2010's came together last October 10, 2015 at the MSHS grounds to celebrate the school's 52nd Grand Alumni Homecoming. This year's hosts for the event are MaSci Silver Jubilarians Batch 1990. Former and current faculty and staff of MSHS joined in the festivities along with the MaSci Drum and Lyre Corps and the Alumni Foundation scholars.

The highlight of the event was the turnover ceremonies for the newly built Animal Laboratory at the 4th floor of the Science Building. The animal laboratory is the pet project (no pun intended) of Batch '90 with Ms. Cecilia Baes serving as Project Lead and spearheaded by the Batch '90 core group led by Dr. Virna Liza Dela Cruz-Balite. The Animal Laboratory project has long been in planning and it took the concerted effort and pooled resources of the entire Batch '90, with guidance and support from the school administration and the Alumni Foundation, to have it come to fruition. The Animal Laboratory fills the need for upgraded facilities for the Science Department and is envisioned to help current and future MaSci students in their laboratory and research subjects.

Aside from Batch '90's Animal Laboratory project, several other projects were turned over to MaSci during the event. First, more than Php200,000 were raised and donated by Batch 1987 for the Alumni Foundation's scholarship program. Second, the MaSci Alumni Basketball League (MABL) earmarked its savings from the league's recently concluded season 3 for the Robotics Program of MaSci. The 3rd Season of the MABL was also co-hosted by Batch 90 as part of its Silver Jubilee activities for 2015.

Batch 90 also honored their teachers from 25 years past, some of whom are still serving MaSci to this day. Ms. Joyce Andrade Benito offered a serenade as the rest of the batch provided gifts of flowers to their former mentors.
