The Manila Science High School campus grounds were in bright spirits for back-to-back days as MaScians celebrated the school's 52nd Foundation Day last Monday, October 5, followed by activities for World Teachers Day on Tuesday, October 6.
The celebrations were kicked off with a thanksgiving mass on Monday morning led by Rev.Fr. Joseph Kubi from the Archdiocese of Manila. A short program then followed with MSHS Principal Maria Eva S. Nacion welcoming the participants to the festivities. Also gracing the occasion was Division of City Schools (DCS) - Manila Superintendent Priscilla C. de Sagun who urged the students to continue with MaSci's tradition of excellence through discipline and diligence.
After a fun rendition of "Doo-bi-doo" by our acclaimed MaSci HS Chorale, plant offerings were then laid at the Alzona marker in front of the main building by representatives of the Manila Science High School community and guests headed by Ms. Nacion, the department heads, the various student organizations and the MaSci alumni present during the event. Exhibits, food and fun booths were available for MaSci students for the duration of the Foundation Day activities. The SSG then hosted the students to an after party to cap the day with an evening of lights, music and dancing.
World Teachers Day came a day late this year but MaScians still treated their teachers with presents and accolades. Flowers abound as every MaSci ID bearing student from 7th to the 10th grade bid their mentors well-wishes and tokens of gratitude. The highlight of the event was an awards ceremony honoring the faculty ala-Oscars and a mini-sportsfest pitting the MaSci varsity players against the teachers in a round of volleyball and basketball. The teachers won 3-2 against the Volleyball Varsity while the Basketball Varsity dominated the reinforced teachers team 124-90.
